The Payne's Rise Cellar Door

Paynes Rise vineyard is incorporated into the 1860's homestead and property of Seville's first settler, Thomas Payne. The cellar door (due to open early 2008) will give visitors the opportunity to wander through the original house and outbuildings.

Currently our wines are available by mail order or appointment and at selected outlets.

We aim to present a place rich in history charm and character, where our visitors can relax and enjoy our fine wines.

The vineyard is situated on a North facing slope of Seville in the Upper Yarra Valley.

This area experiences cooler average temperatures than the northern and central regions of the Valley, mainly due to its higher elevation.

The Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted in 1998.

More recently, Shiraz and grafted Sauvignon Blanc have been added. The Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc are close planted on a Scott Henry trellis.

At Paynes Rise Vineyard we endeavour to produce
fruit driven wines with complexity that are expressive of the vineyard's unique qualities and Upper Yarra cool climate.

Vine denisty and low yields coupled with volcanic red clay soil, northerly slope and microclimate, has resulted in great cool-climate fruit characters.

At Paynes Rise Vineyard we endeavour to produce fruit driven wines with complexity that are expressive of the vineyard's unique qualities and Upper Yarra cool climate.
